Question Using a database

So, I'm trying to use a database for an application using VB.Net with Visual Studio 2015.
I've searched the web and found a lot of info, but none that relates to simply creating a database (with password protection) and using it to add/modify/delete entries.
I only need about 6 fields.
Some of what I found does part of what I need, but not all. There are also so many types being referenced such as MS, Ado, etc that it all get so confusing.
Any code I copy/paste ends up full of errors too.
